Glazing Bamboo: A Case Study of Bamboo Design and Construction In The Northwestern United States

A set of three prototype building assembly designs based on the tension-based coupling of bamboo and glass, along with a pilot pavilion design in the Northwestern United States that employs these assembly designs, is presented. The challenge lies in harnessing bamboo’s flexibility while maintaining the rigidity of glass. Each prototype leverages the natural tensile strength of bamboo through tensioning and suspension, allowing the material to bend and flex without compromising structural integrity.
