Bio-Inspired Approaches For Sustainable Architecture Design
This paper presents findings of a survey conducted to assess students’ experiences within biodesign architectural between March and June 2024. The study was conducted in architectural department in Cairo, architectural design course with special focus on sustainability. It integrated biology with design principles to address sustainable challenges, culminating in a semester-long project where students developed innovative solutions. This exploratory study aimed to understand students’ learning experiences, strengths, weaknesses, and challenges within the workflow. A mixed methods study was used, where a questionnaire-based survey was developed to gather qualitative and quantitative data based on the opinions of the students. Findings focus on the qualitative component to describe students’ experiences, with quantitative data used for triangulation purposes. Insights regarding biodesign were discussed. The analysis evaluates students' effectiveness in multidisciplinary practices, context appropriateness, AI tool integration, and sustainability implementation. Findings serve as an important stepping-stone towards the future of sustainable design education
