Virtual Parametric Modeling and Additive Manufacturing of Organic Joints Using Voronoi Diagram

The Digital Fabrication (DF) democratization process and the growing culture of Do It Yourself (DIY) have made local production on demand viable, favoring the consolidation of small producers. This article aims to investigate the use of additive manufacturing technologies in the production of parametric joint models, with possible applications in furniture, light structures and other artifacts. The methodological procedures adopted in the research start from a narrative review of the literature focusing on digital manufacturing technologies and parametric modeling software, followed by the projective development stage and the experimental production of organic joints based on the Voronoi diagram. The results of this article are a set of parametric joints, as well as the analysis of the additive manufacturing process, with the following parameters: printing time; use of material and efficiency in their production.
