Discrete Structural Systems: Irregular Self-Supporting Meshes (assembly Kit)
This work proposes a reflection derived from the analysis of project experiences for the IMD course of the Industrial Design degree, through the application of a process of geometric discretisation and re-semanticisation of parametrised reference works. The proposed geometric reconstruction (parametric definitions generated ad-hoc) enables and restricts the materialisation of complex self-supporting geometries to simple structural and constructive solutions (assemblable nodes and bars). By changing the scale and manufacturing technologies of discrete free-form structures; strategic subdivision of curves, surfaces and irregular meshes used in architectural building construction, ideation resources for Industrial Design are expanded.
